April is National Facial Protection Month, and a great time for the team at Trade Winds Dental to remind athletes to protect their pearly whites while participating in sports, whether they are “contact” sports or not. Dr. Hennington does provide custom made mouth guards at a reasonable price, and we feel they are more effective than the “boil and bite” OTC models because of the custom fit. Anything is better than no facial protection, however, and there are some decent OTC models that are better than nothing. After all, children, high-school athletes and adults have more than 5,000,000 teeth knocked out annually, according to the National Youth Sports Safety Foundation.
